FEDERAL FALLS CAMPGROUND

Public BBQ

A basic campground high on Mount Canobolas and the trailhead for the Federal Falls loop, with ample flat space for smaller tents and long views that are at their best around sunset. Mobile reception is good, thanks to the communication tower at the lookout. Amenities run to a toilet, two bins and a barbecue, though both barbecues have been out of order, with the nearest working cooking facilities down the mountain at Lake Canobolas. No dogs, no fires and no showers. The falls need recent rain to run, and the walk down to them is pretty but steep, with a great many steps. Kangaroos come in at dusk. It gets bitterly cold at night even in summer, so pack warm clothes.
